What is FAT in Quality Management System ?

FAT stands for Factory Acceptance Testing. FAT is a tool used to describe a series of tests conducted on a product or system before it is delivered to the customer or installed in its intended environment. It is typically performed at the manufacturer's facility or factory to ensure that the product meets the specified requirements and functions as intended.

During a FAT the customer or customer's representative participates in the testing process to verify that the product or system meets their requirements or expected standard and contractual obligations. The tests are designed to simulate real-world operating conditions and evaluate the product's performance, functionality, reliability, and overall quality.

The FAT process generally includes the following activities:

1. Test Planning: Defining the test objectives, scope, and acceptance criteria.

2. Test Execution: Carrying out a series of tests as per the predefined test plan. These tests can include functional tests, performance tests, reliability tests, safety tests, and other relevant assessments.

3. Documentation: Recording the test results, documenting any issues or deviations from the requirements, and generating test reports.

4. Review and Acceptance: Reviewing the test results with the customer or their representative and obtaining their formal acceptance of the product or system.

FAT helps ensure that the product or system is thoroughly tested and meets the specified quality standards before it is shipped or installed. It provides an opportunity for the customer to verify the product's functionality and performance, identify any potential issues or deficiencies, and request necessary adjustments or corrections before the final delivery. Performing FAT can help build trust between the manufacturer and the customer, reduce the risk of failures or non-conformities, and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
